Interview with Rodrigo Beyer Fernandez: Froxx Classics Founder


When did you start thinking about working with cars?


I think many young kids dream of working with cars. For me, it started with Matchbox cars in the early days. Then as I started growing up, I noticed more things about cars, such as the different designs and colours, and finally the horsepower of each car.


I was also quite privileged with the fact that my uncle was a racing driver. Visiting him at a circuit, smelling the burnt oil seeing the cars speed past me on the track, I was fascinated by that.


As a teenager and young adult, I was fascinated by the design of classic cars. They were truly beautiful! As I kept dreaming, I promised myself that one day I would like to restore and care for these classic cars. Over the years, I found that there were more people like me, passionate about classic cars and I realised that there was a special market for these cars. And so here we are today!


Was it difficult to set up Froxx Classics?


Nowadays, setting up a company, especially in Germany, is not easy. It requires a dream, passion, and a lot of perseverance. Most importantly, you need to recognise that such a project cannot be carried out alone. You always need a group of people to be part of the team and adventure.


I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to work and share the passion with a few incredible individuals that part of the Froxx Classics family today. These people have over 100 years of experience with cars. Everyone here is different, but there is one thing that combines us all, our passion and our love of what we do. We are all very lucky to work on something we love.


What is your favourite classic car?


It is very hard for me to pick a favourite, as I am a fan of almost every car built from the ‘50s to the ‘70s. It’s not just about power or comfort, but the whole package. Nowadays, I tend to look at the design and history of the car, along with colours and conditions. The financial aspect is also important: is it a car that will gain value over time or not? All these factors are important, but at the end of the day it’s all about feelings and emotions.


As such, I love the classic Volkswagens, as these are cars that I really enjoy. I love the looks, but also the driving experience and they always make me smile. Whenever I’m driving one of these cars, it is a joy to see how people react to them. For many people, these cars also have a history attached to them, which makes them extra special.


What is the best car you ever restored?


Every restoration is special. I love the details, history, research, sourcing of parts and lastly dedication and perseverance that goes into each build.


The most rewarding restorations are the difficult ones, where you can look back through the whole process and at the end, you can clearly see a “new” car in front of you. It’s not rare that after a thorough restoration procedure, the “new” car looks and feels better than when the car was originally built. This may be due to the evolution of technology, as we now have tools that make it possible to give the exterior an even better finish and the overall improvement of materials in 50, 60 years.


In addition, the rarer a classic car is, the higher the expectation and result. This is clearly the case with our recently restored Puma GT, which is a real jewel.


What is your vision for the company over the next five years?


We see ourselves as a boutique automotive establishment which is specialized in valuable cars and sell them after thorough inspection, preparation, and smart repairs, to the investors in the classic car industry.


Thus, investing in classic cars is different from other forms of investment; the emotional aspect makes it very similar to investing in works of art. We build to last. We want to continue bringing joy to enthusiasts, our customers and business friends. Froxx Classics is a family-owned enterprise, and it intends to remain so
